Spacious

On the three-year anniversary of the release of Show Me, I released a VIP Mix of the original track. Being my inaugural release and one of the most crowd favorites to date, I wanted to celebrate my growth as an artist since starting this project.

When I was moving from San Francisco to Los Angeles, I had many feelings about shedding layers of myself as I was growing older, and was inspired by life changes around me from my brother and my wife. Saudade is a Portuguese word meaning a feeling of longing. The song is about the feeling of nostalgia for your past self and old memories, but being grateful that you’re onto something new in life.

The lyrics are sung by my wife, Marianna. Here they are with the translation below:

After being collaborators for other visuals for Vandelux’s music, I remixed his track ‘Tulum,’ putting my own old-school house spin on the track. I designed the graphics for the overall release and made a limited batch of 50 screenprint posters. We held a pop-up release event in Golden Gate Park in SF, where we gave away all 50 prints within 15 minutes.

Chroma Sea is an indie duo based in San Francisco. In my remix, I took their lowkey and ambient sound to a new level with this energetic house track.

As my third release, Attention was intentionally crafted to have more of a club-heavy feel. The song features a thick bassline and organ chords. At the time of writing this, I was reflecting on what we as people give Attention to in life, and how to focus our attention on the things we care about most. It was a moment of returning to my cadence with making music while balancing life and other work.

This track was the first release of which the screenprint was released at the same time as the song. The night of the release, I was DJing at 1015 Folsom in San Francisco (set here), playing the track for the first time for the audience. It features a dub groove with heavy percussion.

As the first Spacious release, Show Me, was a launch into the house genre, after playing shows in loungey venues with lo-fi house. I had made the screenprint three years before, creating the branding and naming to describe the feeling I got from certain electronic music. Once I started producing music, the connection to my visual art practice emerged and created the combo audiovisual project.
